Katrina Murphy
Katrina Murphy's recent West End theatre credits include Christine Daaé (at certain performances) in the stage musical The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre, London. Katrina trained at the Arts Educational School, won the Tom Merrifield Scholarship to study at the London Studio Centre and then at the Royal College of Music. Katrina played the role of Carrie in Cameron Mackintosh's Carousel at the Shaftesbury Theatre having previously understudied and played the part at the Royal National Theatre. She also played the alternate Christine in The Phantom of the Opera UK tour. Musical radio credits include playing Marsinah in Kismet, Anne in A Little Night Music and Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, all for BBC Radio 2. She has also been guest artist in Radio 2's National Music Day and Friday Night is Music Night. Other theatre credits include Robert & Elizabeth at the Chichester Festival Theatre, the national tour of Kiss Me, Kate, the tour of 20th Century Musicals, the title role in the British premiere of The Girl with the Roses at the Bloomsbury Theatre and Michael Ball's guest singer on his national tour and at the Royal Albert Hall. Opera credits include Orpheus in the Underworld for Opera North where she played the role of Diana, Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, Frasquita in Carmen, all for Travelling Opera, and Valenciene in The Merry Widow for Opera Della Luna. Katrina has also done extensive concert work all over the country and internationally for West End the Concert, working with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, The Scottish Opera Orchestra, Gothenberg Symphony Orchestra, Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra. Other concerts include Bernstein in the 50s at the Symphony Hall Birmingham with the Birmingham Concert Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Simon Rattle, Stars of the Musicals in Kuala Lumpur and guest singer for Larry Adler in his Glory of Gershwin concert tours. She recently performed in Fascinating Rhythm a Celebration of Gershwin with the Odense Symphony Orchestra. Recordings include Carrie in the London cast recording of Carousel, Millie in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Hope in Anything Goes, Grete in The Dancing Years and several West End the Concerts recordings all for TER. Television credits include The Laurence Olivier Awards, The Michael Parkinson Show, both for the BBC; Speed and On the Road, both for ITV. | |
