Sue Johnston
Sue Johnston's recent West End theatre credits include playing the role of Aline Solness in The Master Builder opposite Patrick Stewart at The Albery Theatre, London. Sue Johnston’s other theatre work includes The Play What I Wrote as a guest at The Wyndhams Theatre, The Mysteries at The Royal National Theatre, Hindle Wakes at The Manchester Royal Exchange, Sugar, Sugar and Rage at The Bush Theatre, Richard II at The Manchester Royal Exchange, Two at Bolton, Edinburgh Festival and Young Vic, Ghosts, The Maids, Hay Fever, A Delicate Balance, Accidental Death of an Anarchist and Rise and Fall. Sue Johnston joined the company of the Channel Four soap Brookside on television in 1982. After eight years as Sheila Grant, she has taken on a varied number of television roles including Barbara Royle in The Royle Family, for which she received The British Comedy Award for Best Comedy Performance, and recently as Dr Grace Foley in Waking the Dead. Her other numerous television appearances include Happy Together, My Uncle Silas – two series as Mrs Betts, Sex, Chips and Rock ’n’ Roll, The Things You Do for Love – the Pat Phoenix Story – as Pat Phoenix, Without Walls, Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, Crime Traveller, Medics – four series, In Suspicious Circumstances, Inspector Morse, Finest Hour, Goodbye Cruel World – for which she received the Radio Times 'Performance of the Year' Award. Her film credits include Boogaloo, New Year’s Day, Face, Preaching to the Perverted and Brassed Off with Ewan McGregor, Pete Postlethwaite and Stephen Tompkinson. | |
