Peter Joback
Peter Jöback's recent West End theatre credits include creating the role of Michael in the stage musical The Witches of Eastwick at The Theatre Royal Drury Lane and The Prince of Wales Theatre. Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Peter has already established himself as one of Sweden’s most respected and prolific performers, on stage, television and recording studio. Peter made his professional debut in Sweden at the age of ten as 'Kurt Von Trapp' in The Sound of Music. His oher stage work includes creating the role of 'Nick Piazza' in the original production of Fame in Stockholm for which he was nominated for a Swedish Golden Mask Award for Best Actor in a Musical, 'Teen Angel' in Grease, 'Tony' in West Side Story, 'Gray' in The Jungle Book, the lead role in the National Tour’s of Musical Express Parts 1 & 2. Most recently he created the role of 'Robert' in Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus (of ABBA) new epic musical Kristina Fran Duvemåla. Peter’s recording of the single 'Guldet Blev Till Sand' went Gold and was in the Top Ten Sales Chart for months and broke all records by spending 110 weeks on the Swedish Radio chart. The original cast album received several Grammy Awards in 1997 including Album of the Year. In February 1997 Peter made his West End Debut as 'Chris' in Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London. Returning to Sweden he recorded a solo album in Swedish 'Personal Choices' for Sony Music. An immediate hit with the Swedish public and critics, reaching No.2 in the Swedish Album Charts. The single form the album was also No.2 in the Radio Charts. The album went platinum and he was subsequently nominated for a Swedish Grammy Award for 'Artist of the Year'. In February 1998 Peter returned to Kristina Fran Duvemåla which opened in Stockholm for the first time, again as a massive success. He received a Golden Mask Award for his role as 'Robert'. Peter is a regular performer on Swedish Television and his one hour show Peter Jöback - A Musical Voyage broadcast Christmas 1997 represented Sweden at the 1998 Montreux Festival, going on to win the first prize in the Bulgarian Television Festival and a Commended Award at the New York Television Festival. On film Peter was the voice of Aladdin for the Swedish release of the Disney animated classic and the Swedish voice of the title role in the US box office success Stuart Little. In 1999 Peter made his film debut in the Swedish film At The End of The Rainbow by director Richard Hobert, starring among others actress Pernilla August. His recent concert appearances include two sold out concerts at the Globe Arena, the biggest indoor venue in Scandinavia; with Stockholm Sinfonietta under the musical direction of Martin Yates and in January 1998 he completed seven sold-out solo-concerts performed with Anders Neglin and his orchestra, to great critical acclaim. Peter also headlined his own show at Hamburger Börs in Stockholm, with a 17 piece orchestra and full company of dancers, to the acclaim of audience and critic alike. | |
